The main reason why people respond to conflict in a negative way is because they perceive it as a threat to either their physical, emotional, power, or status as a person. For example, In Anne Frank, the Diary of a Young Girl , a Jewish girl named Anne talks about how all her special privileges were taken away, yet she managed to find the good about her day. Anne says this in her diary, "It's sweltering. Everyone is huffing and puffing, and in this heat I have to walk everywhere. Only now do I realize how pleasant a streetcar is, but we Jews are no longer allowed to make use of this luxury; our own two feet are good enough for us. Yesterday at lunchtime I had a dentist appointment with the dentist on Jan Luykenstraat. Fortunately, people automatically offer you something to drink. The dental assistant is really kind." When Anne and her family went into hiding she talks about how she does not like hiding but she does not hate it. Anne's diary state, "You no doubt want to hear what I think of being in hiding.
