The exit examination is a trial that students need to excel to get a diploma certificate as well as to graduate from high school. The United States uses standard tests that are comprehensively based on the education program. The exit exams are aimed at increasing the learning standards of all scholars (Betts et al. 5-6). Students are given several chances to redo the test if they fail the initial trial. Students in the United States, who are not able to excel the test given by local public schools, have an alternative of demonstrating their mastery in the application field. The test usually involves pencil and paper examination without demonstration of the components that a student has in the performance of the applied field (Ormrod 7-8). The tests do not examine the weakness and strengths that a student has in the pathway of a prosperous life. Use of exit exam in the college will cut off an extensive range of opportunities that might be available to students. Students retake the trials for several times tackling on choice questions rather than engaging in the real life circumstances that will be faced during the life after school. Rather than examining on how good the students are in class the tests should be preparing the scholars on how to handle the harsh life after school. The papers do not provide basic concept on how to become a successful person (Wilkinson 10-11). Passing the university and college exit exam is not related to how effective a person is when tackling real life issues. The trials only offer a certificate but do not show how the person is productive and capable of performing in a particular domain. The facts of a successful life are based on how a person can apply the theory learnt in class to handle real life circumstances (Betts et al. …show more content…
However, the exit trials have both negative and positive effects to students. The exams do not test the student’s weakness and strengths on living a prosperous life. The tests are not fair to the minor students from low socioeconomic classes. The introduction of a similar college exit tests is not applicable. Colleges are institutions that produce specialists who are ready to handle life circumstances in different domains. Putting these distinct specialists under the same trial is not justifiable. The exit test only involves pencil and paper evaluation but do not demonstrate the performance components of the students. The exit trials may lead to narrowing of the curriculum since the students and teacher will only concentrate on the topics that are likely to be tested rather than covering the broad syllabus. A lot of time is wasted to prepare the students for exit tests. Moreover, lacking job as a result of failing the exit test it is unfair for a person from the college.
