Ten years old Judy grew up in an abusive family with a single mother, who has recently been fire. Because of this stress in the issue of income, Judy’s mother turns to alcohol for help. By using Bronfenbrenner’s ecological system this report aims to exam the five environmental systems that has influences on Judy’s development. The environmental system includes Microsystem, Mesosystem, Exosystem, Macrosystem and Chronosystem. This model helps create positive and negative impacts on Judy’s Development over time.

A positive social impact for her is having a group of friends at school, with the same behaviours and beliefs. This is a positive impact on Judy because she is connecting with others and because she is always alone at home when her mother is out drinking, it can be a good opportunity for Judy to make friends and socialize. Because Judy is the only child, and her mother may not be at home as often, another social impact is that she could join extra co curricular activities at school such as sports team, chess clubs etc. By joining extra co curricular, it can help Judy by associating with peers that can help and support her. Starting from the microsystem, this is going to impact on Judy as it is forcing her to become independent at a young age, which is going to help her in the future. She also has teachers help, care and support while making friends in sports team while her mother is not at home. Secondly having connection in Mesosystem is a big impact as she will interact with her group of friends who has the same beliefs, and also get to join extra co-curricular which will have good influences from it to produce good relationship skills with others around Judy. Having good relationships skills with church peers can be a positive impact, which is the Exosystem that will help guide and support Judy as she is developing. As Judy attends church and school, she is going to gain good relationships with peers and teachers around her to support her and make her realize that is it important to study to become educated which will lead her to a brighter future instead of having to follow her mother’s path. Lastly as she grows up having positive impacts surrounding her, she is going to realize that good parenting is important for the child’s development and which is going to make her change into a caring and understanding mother in the future when she has her own
