Advocacy is a compound process that involves competent use of problem solving, influence, communication, and collaboration to accomplish a solution to an issue. Creating positive and effective change in the workplace needs multi-dimensional process in order to keep the big picture in mind, ensuring executable components are in place, and continuously maintaining and evaluating the infrastructure to ensure it is relevancy. Above all, it is important to make sure that the entire team is on board and application of a multi-method approach to communication is also very important. These approaches can help create successful change in the workplace.

It is extend to the internal and external health care system. Organizational policies such as nursing staffing are another strategy that needed the involvement and participation of the nurses in the hospital management nursing council. For example, nurses knows health care environment than other health professional, since they are the largest group of health personnel in the health care, they knows what are the improvements that needed change and by empowering them, it will be of help to enhance quality and safe health care. Problem solving of one of the strategies, problem identification is the first step followed by goals and a strategy to address the issues, followed by plan of action and time frame for strategy to be completed. Nurses need to voice or identify any issue that need to be address and advocates for change. Even though, it requires collaboration, negotiation and compromise to achieve the desire outcome (Tomajan, 2012). Communication is very essential in all aspect of life. Communication concerning the problem must exist, real, factual and consistent. Individuals and groups must work together to address an issue or concern. Nurses need to advocates by communicating evident and concisely and structure the message that are appropriate for both the situation and the intended audience, which could be verbal, written, and electronic formats (Tomajan, 2012). According to Tomajan (2012), influence is built on competence, credibility, and trustworthiness. Nurses need to influence other to take action. Keeping the best interests of those involved in the situation builds trust and credibility. Nurses need to advocate and influence the decision makers by structuring a case for the desired change, backup the case with facts and data.
