The early Physical Development in a child’s body is very critical; many factors play in physical and mental health. A child’s physical and mental development is affected from early experiences and relationship with parent, relative teachers and peers, which can shape the architecture of the developing brain and body. Mental health provides an essential foundation of stability that supports the functioning of a child’s development. Young children can be affected by many social, economic, and environmental factors both in a positive and negative ways, due to children being vulnerable and things parents, peers and teachers take for granted can easily affect them. Stress is simply a reaction that engages a person to become unbalance physically and mentally, even adults have trouble containing their emotions. Every day children experience some type of stress whether it is because of a school project or a test but these are temporary and often go away once they get over that moment. On the other hand when children are in constant stress it is difficult for them to concentrate in school and this starts affecting their everyday life routine. As seen in chapter 10 constant stress begins to take a toll on the child. Stress depending on where it stems from can become a bigger problem that can be hard to fix if it isn’t taken care of from the beginning. If a child for example, is sexually assaulted or have witnessed violence this can cause long-term issues in the way they behave and feel about themselves. Prolonged stress can definitely affect children and develop into Post Traumatic stress disorder as shown, “Intrusive thoughts and flashbacks, nightmares and sleep disorders, withdrawal, and problems with emotional control” (285). Children suffer the same affects as adults do and it can be extremely damaging since their brains are still growing and changing.
