Epiphany In The Grand Canyon

Improved Essays
I hate that the bottom of the Grand Canyon has such good cell service. I finished hiking down ten miles of steep sedimentary rock, in what felt like a million degrees. Having ran out of cold water at mile seven, I was practically crawling for the remaining three. When we reached the bottom, my mother and I sat down at a picnic table and, in the absence of much else to do, I whipped out my phone and signed into the college board website—you know, what every millennial does in one of the most beautiful natural creations in the world. Looking back now, I’m amazed that in the midst of the Grand Canyon, the only thing I could think about was my AP score. As I typed in my password, I expected to get a notification saying, “No internet, try again later.” But at that moment, I received the best connection and lesson to date.

The article states that there are three competing theories about the settlement of Chaco Canyon in New Mexico, what used to be, and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that none of the theories is acceptable, and refutes each of the author`s reasons. Although, the professor refutes this and says may be the building looks a like housing apartments from outside, but from inside are not seem to be apartments.…

INTRODUCTIONIn the latter half of the nineteenth century, after the cannon of the Civil War had quieted, the young nation of the United States turned its face westward to the little known reaches of the Great Plains, RockyMountains, and beyond. The Transcontinental Railroad, a 3,000-mile link between the east and the pacific coast was nearing completion as surveys of the federal government were exploring, mapping and bringing back to an eager public audience the wonders of geysers, fogged peaks, and miles and miles of treeless plains. The last and perhaps most wondrous area of the frontier to be explored lay south in the arid canyonlands of thePlateau Region — The Colorado River and its Grand Canyon. Unlike many of the inhabited regions in…

Over the years, technology has advanced so much it has completely altered the way of life. You can research online in seconds versus going to a library and taking hours. Further into modern technology, a smartphone contains many apps; now you only have to grab your phone instead of taking a watch, calculator, a map and many other accessories. Today’s world sounds a lot easier, but generally speaking, the easy way has not always been the best way. Technology doesn’t allow us to retain enough information, can be a distraction, and is also unreliable.…

Your essay, “The Damnation of a Canyon” is a very descriptive and contains many scenes of awe. Whereas it lacks any logical reasons which would appeal to the audience you are trying to convince. The majority of your essay consists of vivid and beautiful imagery, and although it may seem tragic and heartbreaking to fellow nature lovers, your essay just stands as a plea with no advantage. Although we may have different opinions, you may want to hear us out because the dam was built by people of similar thoughts.…

As the powerful Colorado River churned beneath me, as it has for centuries, and the relentless sun peaked over the top of the North Rim, I could not help but feel astounded. I was in a timeless place: a place disconnected from the society I had left behind miles ago. Down here, in the lowest section of the Grand Canyon, it was just me, my friends, and the heat. Always the heat. We had started our journey, a run from the Grand Canyon’s North Rim to the South Rim, at 4 AM in a futile attempt to avoid the skyrocketing temperature and finish before the sun became the determining factor in the success of our venture.…

The short story “Abitibi Canyon” by Joseph Boyden consists of several important principles of Indigenous people that I would like to make connections in three different ways. The connections I have chosen are issues that I learned in school, hear of and personally encountered with. Making connections from prior knowledge deepens people’s understanding of problems that others may deal with on a daily base. In today’s society, it is human nature to judge others by their actions and appearance without realizing that they are doing so. For the past couple of weeks, I have been watching Tell My Story, Blind Date, which is a series of YouTube videos by SoulPancake that make videos of things that they think matter, and the specific video…

Imagine one day without your smartphone: you would probably be unable to recall your to-do list, find where you need to go, and keep up with boredom. Now remember how much you over-spent on music, travel, movies, and food 10 years ago, and how limited our knowledge of anything was before Google and Wikipedia. On the one hand, our life is now more efficient, cheaper, simpler and faster thanks to the rise of apps and 24-7 connectivity. On the other hand, that also exposes the intellectual vulnerability of our offline life — without internet access, even a 7-year old is smarter than us (so long as she has access to the web). Life has become more complex but we hardly ever notice it because technology has made complexity simpler than ever.…
