S1, Ep11 Blood Hungry - a killer whose delusional fantasies lead him to commit three murders and a kidnapping.
In the beginning when they found the second victim the crime profile was believed to be for two suspects, because you could tell that one victim only got as close as it took to see the victim while the other murdered and eviscerated the victim. They believed that one of the suspects was just a drug addict and thief because you could tell that the drug cabinet had been rummaged through and things had been stolen. While they thought the other was psychotic and possibly knew the victim because of the way the eviscerated the victim and only got as close as needed. One suspect was described as; male, crazy, tall, and skinny, with a busted lip. When they brought their first suspect into custody they had found out that he showed up after the murder and was the one who stole things. After evidence was found and another description was given there next profile describes the suspect as; male, black hoodie, 20-30 years old, extreme psychotic (schizophrenic), a cannibal (anthropophagy), lives in the town or used to, wasn't always a threat. They also created a theory about the reason he was doing what he did and why was because of some sort of religious reasoning. Based on the evidence that they had collected to find there suspect and upon taking him into custody it is believed he fit the final description pretty well based upon his actions other things. By piecing together the evidence that the suspect studied religion in college and that his crimes fit a religious story help lead them to find where the suspect would be next and in turn was correct when they captured him at a church. Drug abuse and schizophrenia In the episode the offender had schizophrenia. It was onset from abusing hard drugs. Bennett states that the outcome of his research on drug abuse and schizophrenia shows, "It is probable that characteristics of schizophrenia, such as social dysfunction and discordant relationships, contribute to offending behaviours and comorbid substance abuse" (Bennett, 2011, p. 226). So it could be that because he had schizophrenia he was abusing drugs, and in return the drug abused caused his schizophrenia to advance and push him into this violent behavior. Based on the evidence the reason he committed these crimes could be because drugs increase violence in people with schizophrenia, just like The Influence of Substance Abuse upon Deviant Behavior in Schizophrenia, concludes in there research as stated "the number of aggressive behaviour in patients with schizophrenia and drug use being almost double than within the control group" (Costache, 2016, p. 20). Along with the statement from Schizophrenia Disorders "Patients with schizophrenia are significantly more likely than those in the general community to commit homicide offences" (Bennett, 2011, p.206). This shows that those who have this disease and are drug abusers are more likely to be aggressive and cause harm and or commit a homicide offence. This study also stated, "The risk of violent behaviour is 1.7 times greater in drug abusing schizophrenia sufferers than in patients who do not suffer from substance abuse" (Costache, 2016, p. 18). Based off of the information given the reason the offender did what he did could be because people with schizophrenia are …show more content…
He studied comparative religion in college and compared his case to a similar on called "The Vampire of Sacramento". What was believed to motivate him to murder these people was a religious background. Many crimes are committed because of religious beliefs. Religion, Age, and Crime states, "A growing body of empirical research demonstrates that the relative presence of religious adherents at the community-level has important relationships with rates of crime and violence." (Harris, 2015, p. 211). Showing that a lot of crimes are driven on religion. Along with crimes a lot of people who are cannibals do so because of a religious story so they are driven to eat others based off of religion. So based off of evidence his motivation for these crimes was religious because of the things he did during the murders and his background in
