In this paper I will include several different topics on the subject of Drug Testing Athletes. These subjects include, college athletes being drug tested, the different types of drugs that are used in all athletes, why drug use is a problem in sports, how to determine if an athletes is using drugs, drug testing polices, potential side effects, many historical use of drugs, and two different personal stories that have happened to former athletes. Student athletes in Division I and Division II are subject to year-round testing. These athletes may be selected on the basis of their sport, position, competitive ranking, financial-aid status, playing time, directed testing, random testing or a variation of any of those criteria. For year-round testing, colleges are notified not earlier than two days before the day of testing, including no-advance (NAN) testing. The college then notifies the athlete. For year-round summer drug testing, athletes are selected from official team rosters or other approved lists. Colleges do not receive notification for off-campus summer testing (NCAA).
