Dress Codes Persuasive Essay

Today in society men and women are being degraded based on what they wear and what they look like. Whether it’s gender based clothes or gender swapped clothes, people feel the need to restrict others of what they prefer or feel comfortable in. An example of restrictive clothes would be school, public private, religious, most schools have dress codes that restrict all of the students to wear what they feel is “protective” or “non-distractive”. Students feel restricted on what they can express, feel comfortable in, to having limits on expressing their fashion choices and every student should be to express themselves. Dress codes are aspects of many schools all over the world, whether it’s public, private, or religious schools. The point of dress codes is to limit all students to a similar amount of clothing items so no distractions or issues will occur if too much skin is showing. Most schools allow most religious factors such as hats, skirts, scarves, wraps, etc. in some cases there have been unfortunate relations with schools to where religious belongings weren’t allowed to be worn, which is unnecessary and disrespectful to anyone’s religion or culture. Private and religious schools often times are just based on uniforms for students to wear but some may just have a limited dress codes, which most public schools have a limited dress codes but some may as well have uniforms. Basic dress codes just include things such as no “spaghetti” strap or thin strapped tank tops, tank tops/shirts must be three fingers wide or more, no bras showing, no rips or holes in jeans, no hats, no short shorts, shorts and skirts must all come to the knee or below the knee, no pajamas, and the list could go on and on. Uniformed schools may include you to wear collared shirts with kakis or a uniform that the school will give you. In the school system today there are too many restrictions on students to what they can wear, there should be no excuse as to why boys and girls need to be sent home or to the office in the middle of their education due to one bra strap showing, a boy wearing a hat, or a girl’s knees are showing cause her dress is an inch …show more content…
Girls shouldn’t have to worry if the outfit she loves most will get her kicked out of class or shamed because she’s too heavy to wear leggings or her bra strap shows a little on her back and guys shouldn’t have to give up their favorite hat they wear all the time because it seems “dangerous” to the school, lastly no matter your gender the school shouldn’t take away your rights to decide what gender based clothing you prefer to wear. The only limits a school should have on dress code is that you make sure the clothing isn’t showing any private body parts or says anything inappropriate or offensive on it. But no school should be allowed to provoke gender based rules or limited dress codes just because they feel uncomfortable with it and they think certain clothes will distract any students, school systems take away from our clothing choices, religious apparel, etc. We as students know how to act and dress appropriately, every school should want their students to be whom they are, to achieve and shine
