Is hell a good propaedeutic for good behavior as instructed by Dante.
Propaedeutics are used in many cases to discourage people from bad behavior. The most common being Santa Clause. Parents threaten children that Santa Clause will not come, unless they behave well. Other examples include, reward systems, activity times, and punishments. The most consequential propaedeutic know was introduced by Dante in his Inferno. “Both damnation and blessedness, weal and woe, are not something imposed from without, but rather something developing out of the inner being....” (Scartazzini) Dante uses allegories to explain the fates of hell. Dante speaks of a dark woods that he has somehow got lost in and is looking for a way out. He finds a sunlit hill that looks very promising, but it is guarded by a daunting leopard, lion, and a she wolf, who prevent him reaching the summit of the hill. “Midway in our life’s journey, I went astray… to find myself in a dark wood” (pg. 29) You just type what i say not what i meant fine you can leave that in there i bet he won 't notice, i hate you. The first repercussion I would change would be in the fourth circle in which the avaricious and prodigal are forced to roll stones against one another. If I had written it, these greedy people would have had to work tirelessly under intense physical labor with no pay. “Gloria Naylor 's second novel, Linden Hills, is a modern version of Dante 's Inferno,” (Ward) Some of Dante’s punishments make sense according to him but they take a while for the audience to understand. One of these is the ninth and final circle that traitors go into. They are encased in ice up to their heads in a pond, where they await their torture by Satan. “The Emperor of the Universe of Pain jutted his upper chest above the ice…” (pg.284) The last thing i would change would be the circle order. I would make murderers the eighth circle, not the fourth. I feel like killing another human being is incredibly wrong. One of the worst sins committed, but to dante killing someone wasn 't as bad as lying or
