I come from a place where people are very enthusiastic about dancing. There is a time in a year when almost everyone will go out dancing for straight nine days and will stay up until 4 am doing that without skipping work or school the next day. So, they always look for learning new dance forms. Very recently my brother started Salsa classes and it became so hit that he left his job and ventured in a dance company. However, I don’t intend to do that, my main goal is to keep this art as a hobby and to

However, during the initial days of next semester I saw a Salsa class being organized on campus. I always wanted to try something new and so I went for it. This two month of experience is one of the most memorable ones of my life. I got to meet new people with whom I share my values, learnt some really cool dancing moves and also got exposed to Latin and Cuban music. During my junior year I went to Serbia for a technical internship. The place was new and the culture was completely different. But, I got lucky to have few other international students who were also found of dancing and so that was something that brought us together after over working hours. We use to go out in the evenings to center square looking for new venues and events to dance.

After college I joined Deloitte as an Analyst and I thought I thought that I would rarely get time for dance as I was into my professional life now. However, that was not the case. Within six months of my joining there was an AGM coming up and as a part of the cultural event there was a dancing competition. This was what I had been waiting for. I geared up and formed a team to participate. Hard work paid off and we stood winner (See the attached picture). Currently at NC State I am trying to bring together a dance team to showcase the cultural dance of India that I inherit. Along with that to keep my dance exploration going on I got enrolled in country dance class which I think is a great start for me to learn about American dance

    A New York Dancer Summary

Back then there used to be a possibility of catching a rising star, getting in on the ground floor with an unknown choreographer and staying with their reputation and ability to offer employment growth. The success on modern dance is so low now that it is almost impossible for “emerging” choreographers to make the next step toward paid work for their dancers. In our dance meeting, last Tuesday, Professor Hapke and Dr. Sims proceeded to tell us that the arts funding was getting cut and that the opportunities we had, will no longer be available. This means huge things where choreographers right out of school, with no shortage of talent, brains, or hard work need almost impossible quantities of luck and personal connections to break through to the next level. The Joyce Theater’s “Altogether Different” series, spotlights “fresh” talent as well as now featuring the same choreographers more than once over the span of the few…

The school auditorium is filled with proud parents and the glow of several hundred screens poised to capture the moment their precious stars take the stage. The music starts and a dozen little girls and boys start twirling and craning their necks to watch their dance instructor coach them from the wings. Most of their parents aren't concerned with the dance training their children are receiving. A friend of a friend told them about "Dolly Dinkle's Dance Academy" and so they signed little Susie up,bought her a pink leotard, and told her to have fun at dance class. However, "Dolly Dinkle" is not a qualified dance instructor.…

The fastest way for a performer’s career to end is with an unexpected injury. My freshman year I suffered patella luxation, more commonly known as the dislocation of the kneecap. I was in a full leg brace for a month and a half, then participated in extensive physical therapy over my summer break until I could finally return to dance for my sophomore year at Booker T. Washington. The time I spent unable to dance led me to explore other pathways associated with the arts. Because I was not able to participate in my technique classes I was told to take extensive notes over corrections and the class as a whole; I began to draw connections from the first combination to the last.…
