Cumbinus Play Analysis

Columbinus was a combination of both drama and horror. Basically the play is a reenactment of one of the most tragic school shootings known to mankind. Eric and Dylan are two of many students going through the daily struggles of stress, pressure, and competition. The play starts off by showing that all of the students go through school and life the same way. Each student has his or her own daily struggles. The whole play is setup to show the lives of two perpetrators, Eric and Dylan, only to end the show with them executing their master plan of killing off their own classmates one by one. The playwright did an outstanding job of sorting out the Acts in proper order. I really enjoyed learning about how these students lived their lives. It was brilliant work. Eric and Dylan are Antagonists willing to sacrifice their lives in the act of brutally killing off their student population. They were all extremely believable. However, one actor stood out the most. Dylan had by far the best performance on stage. There wasn’t a single moment in the play where I thought Dylan wasn’t the exact same Dylan that committed those horrific crimes. From the start to the finish, you could always tell he was the outsider and also the lonely kid with the most problems psychologically. His facial expressions towards other characters were also noted without a doubt. Especially in the scene when he was singled out talking to the counselor. His expressions really empowered him after that. He did such a fine job regarding confidence. Every word he said felt like he was saying it from
