The client selected, belongs to a family with Caucasian descent (Belgian/Dutch). They are described as a biological, sociological, and extended type of a family. The developmental stage of the family is the Families with young adults: launching (Kaakinen &Hanson,2015). Karen’s parents got separated when she was a 10 and her mother got a partner since she turns eighteen. Karen’s father continued to visit them ones in a while since her parent’s separation up until he become ill. They all finished at least grade 10 but stopped mostly due to poor living condition. The family expressed that they needed more help in knowing how to help Karen. But by having good communication to each other, by listening and respecting all member despite of their differences, they all accepted her condition after few weeks. From then they identified that their positive communication and relationship is a strength of the family. They realize they have to face it together stated by Katrina. They got empowered when they were introduced to the different available resources for their family in the community. They also practice shared decision making within the family. Karen finds her Mom, sister, and boyfriend to be very supportive of her treatment. Karen looks to her Mom as her primary caregiver/support during the early days of her sickness. Katrina said it’s very hard for her when Karen was first diagnosed with depression, but have no fear now that even though Karen lives by herself, she believes that she’s always in the good hands of her Psychiatrist and Mental Health Nurses in the city. And it also helps that by the experiences of having other family members that went through the same signs and symptoms of depression, she feels empowered of their support and sharing. Katrina stressed out during phone conversation that their communication despite of their distance is always constant, warm, thoughtful, and respectful. The kind of communication that is generally enjoyable and satisfying to her as a mother and to both her two daughters who live quiet far from here she said. Karen agreed with what her Mom said. Karen said she and her sister always encourage her to have a healthy behavior and that she usually trusts what her mom advise her. Her mom’s warmth and supportiveness always contributes to her healthy development from her depression, she finds her Mom to usually helpful with what is mostly important to her.
