Concussions are the number one leading injury in contact sports. Football and hockey are the leading sports that athletes receive the most head contact causing concussions. There are about 67,000 in high school football each year. There are several ways to help prevent them and to reduce the risk of receiving a concussion and i will be explaining them in the following paragraphs. A Concussion is a brain injury that affects the way your brain works. Effects of concussions are usually short depending on how bad the concussion is but can you can have problems with headaches, concentration, memory, balance and coordination which isn’t a very good thing to happen if your’e in sports and trying to keep playing. Concussions are more likely to happen if a person plays any contact sport such as football or hockey being the main sports but other sports could lead to concussions as well.

The most common symptoms after a concussion injury are headaches, confusion, and dizziness which means you have a hard time trying to sleep at night. The amnesia could be caused by a loss of memory but almost always involves the loss of memories of the hit that caused the concussion or the events right before the hit took place. Like in football when someone gets hit they cant remember what happened and in Jr. high Grant got a concussion and the trainer asked him what day it was and what he had earlier in the day for lunch and he had no clue what day it was or what he had for lunch at school. Thats an example of short term memory loss before the accident took place in the same
