Concert report #2 On October 21, 2015 I attended the California State University Wind and Brass Quintets. The concert was held on the Universities campus, at the Gerald R. Daniel Recital Hall. The Wind Quintet was directed by John Barcellona, and the Brass Quintet was directed by Steve Trapani. The event had a moderate amount of attendees, likely no more than thirty in total, for the type of ensemble and that it was held on a Wednesday night. Combined both ensembles played a total of five pieces, three of which had multiple movements. Personally each quintet had a piece that proved to be favorable to me. In comparison to my last real, large orchestra concert, it differed greatly. In the concerts length, size, and attendance it was a much different experience. While I had the understanding and that attendance would likely be small considering its day of the week and the time of day, 8 o’clock on a Wednesday, but it proved to have even less people than I had expected. Though I knew it was merely two quintets I had never been to the Daniel Recital Hall, and therefore thought the venue itself would be larger than it was, I had envisioned it to be at least two times as large as it ended up being, which ended up being more than suitable for what ensued in their performances. My first concert I attended, the …show more content…
5 Son De Mexico. Enrique Crespo is a renowned trombonist and composer from Uruguay, who relocated to Germany for his musical career. While the piece is in major, and is in a happy cheerful tune, the homophonic nature and ostinato lead this piece to seem almost boring and repetitive to me. The majority of the piece was either in a Moderato, or Allegro tempo, using accelerando to ramp up its tempo as the song progresses. The entirety of the piece is Forte, and has multiple disjunct moments throughout the movement, which combined became almost jarring to my personal

The group consisted of Andrew Fiorini on the trumpet, Noah Johnson on the trombone, Meghan Walls playing the piano, Andrew Moser on the electric bass, and Collin St. Mary on the drums. Regarding the music…

I loved the last piece in the third movement because it was played very well and it is an iconic piece. I had different emotions for the individual pieces were I felt at ease, delighted, and anxious with a dynamic feeling when the pieces go fast paced. This time I remembered the fast parts since I expected than the other first concert. The most memorable was Moonlight, presto movement. For the chamber groups they projected a playful vibe between each other enjoying when it alternates to one another.…

I do not think any words could have truly described how I nor the rest of the audience felt during that performance. The opinions and analogies of the pieces found in the program notes did slightly influence me. I agreed with and understood most opinions and comments of the performances. The listenings I did for my pre-concert assignment were not nearly the same thing as being in the auditorium. It was a completely different experience to see, hear and feel the performance in person as opposed to watching a video on a screen and trying to listen to the depth of the orchestra through…

Walking into the auditorium, I immediately noticed that the atmosphere of the concert was completely different from that of the classical concert I attended weeks earlier. To begin with, it seemed like there was much more of an audience. Everyone seemed excited for the concert to start. As for myself, I was also excited because, on the very front of the program, it said that there was a guest artist that was going to perform with the ensemble. The performers wore more of a business casual look, some were a little more dressed up than others, but overall they looked very well dressed.…

Concert Report Two The concert performance given live that I have attended on Thursday April 20th, 2017 was an organ licentiate recital by Ian Guenette. It was held at the Redpath Hall, a building located on McTavish street. The Redpath Hall was first dedicated for a library building, but is now taken charge by the Schulich School of Music. The Hall is very charming with its high selling that contains thick dark brown carved wodden beams that covers the intire ceiling and gives warmth to the room.…

I attended the Virtuoso Series Concert, “Nuevo Historias” in the Organ Recital Hall on November 9th. This show was held in a smaller recital hall because “Hansel and Gretel” was being shown in the main UCA concert hall. This performance had Peter Sommer on saxophone, Eric Gunnison on piano, Kent McLagan on bass, and Marc Dalio on drums. This jazz combo played a combination of original pieces by Peter Sommer and some covers of more well-known songs. I observed some nontraditional methods of playing instruments and style of songs played throughout the performance, but particularly in the original compositions.…

The concert that I’ve attended for this project was the Opera Don Giovanni by Mozart on October 31, 2014 at 7:30 PM, which was performed by The Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. It was performed in the Ruby Diamond Concert Hall, which was an exceptional venue used for this type of opera, as the ambience around the hall was focused on the opera the entire time. From the opening act to the various parts in the opera that the action was intense, there was a lot of variety in the music and acting in this opera. There are a total of two acts in this opera, each ninety minutes long, with a thirty minute intermission between the two. Three sopranos and basses, along with a tenor and a baritone, compliment the composition.…

On Thursday, September 29th at 7:30pm I attended the LU Symphony Orchestra Concert in Towns Auditorium. Prior to the concert beginning, I noticed a wide variety of instruments on the stage. There were some instruments that I did not know the name of but for the most part, I knew a large majority of the string, woodwind and brass instruments presented. The last time that I went to a symphony was when I was in elementary school, so attending an orchestral concert in college was a much different experience. I was fascinated by the diversity of instruments.…
