Davy Crockett vs Texas Pride
After the Great Depression in America, the people were climbing out of the whole that the Great Depression dug into their society. Americans were looking to start new lives, and build a better foundation of America. At this time, he T.v. was becoming incorporated into peoples everyday lives around the world. Disney saw this television boom as an opportunity to create a franchise, using the great American hero Davy Crockett. Children and teens everywhere saw Davy as an American hero and wanted to be just like him, buying any type of merchandise that has his name on it, thus boosting everything about the economy. This grabbed the attention of everyone from parents to politicians. The parents saw it as a negative, decreasing their child's potential. The politicians used it as an advantage towards the nations economy. To this day we see other characters, heroes, trends, and fads arise by using the same marketing technique as Disney, especially in Texas. Have you ever thought about why people who are born and raised in Texas, have so much pride in their state? From being taught to love it, to the states pride being pressed in your home, or its history and setting, and even the main economical push for pride in the state, Texans take more pride in their state than any other. It may be that way because of the way the government and people use the economy to promote Texas pride. Just like back in the Disney day, televisions are used in just about every single home across the world, most even having more than one in their house. Companies use the television as a way to introduce various products, scenes, and settings that would be pleasing to the viewer. They are taught about the states history, and although the states history can be very appealing to many people, the way schools portray the state can have a big influence on the students. Using Texas's history, some people are brought out, and can be seen as larger than life. By incorporating two years of stories about inventions, accomplishments, wars, villains, and heroes into a young students mind, they can seemingly grow attached to the subject of Texas, and look highly upon it. Public schools in Texas also pledge allegiance to the United States and Texas flag every day at school for the first 12 years of school, and not only do schools push Texas pride into the students, they publicly show Texas pride by flying the Texas flag right next to the American Flag, businesses, banks, stores, and malls all show this support as well. If you are not from Texas, you might find yourself wondering why they are so defensive about their state. If you ever get the chance to meet someone from Texas ask why they love Texas so much. But if you ask a Texan why they have so much pride in their state, they might not know the answer to that question.. That's because it was planted into them from everyday society in the same way that Davy Crockett was used to change the way people looked, acted, and thought, back in the earlier
