If there is more than one person involved, nine times out of ten there is more than one side to the story. Just because there are different stories, doesn’t mean that one story may not be true, it can simply mean that each person decided to explain what was more significant to them. In the Bible there are several chapters. Although some stories are quite similar, In each of the chapters there tells a unique story. The gospels of Mark and Matthew are recognized as synoptic gospels, being that they contain majority of the same stories about Jesus’ birth, walk, and crucifixion. Even though the Bible doesnt mention which chapter was written first, the Gospel of Mark comes before Matthew, giving us great reason to believe that Mark was the first of many other synoptic gospels written. Reading the two chapters, a person would definitely be able to recognize that the author of Matthew took the gospel of Mark and merely edited it to his version of what happened from a different perspective. …show more content…
According to “Portraits of Jesus,” the purpose of the added content was to influence the portrayal of Jesus. A story mentioned in each of the Gospels was Jesus walking on water. After feeding more than five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish, the disciples were told to get onto boat as Jesus went to the mountains to pray. While Jesus was coming back from the mountain he and disciples realizes the boat’s distance from land. In the Gospels of Mark and Matthew the reader receives two distinct viewpoints of similar stories. Of course, the Gospel of Mark is much abbreviated compared to the Gospel of Matthew, being that Mark was written first and used as a source for Matthew; some of Mark’s writings are replicated in Matthew. In the Gospels of both Mark and Matthew the disciples are portrayed in two different lights. Matthew is kinder with his portrayals of the disciples than Mark. Within the text of both Gospels the authors show instances of the followers of Jesus that have faith and those that their faith is absent or not strong enough.…

A significant aspect of Jesus’ portraits has to do with the titles used to describe him and point to his humanness or divinity. The diction used in Mark is less suggestive of Jesus’ divine nature than in John. The most common title for Jesus in Mark’s gospel is “Teacher” or “Master,” plain human terms that emphasize the idea of serving others. Jesus is portrayed as the servant of God, but he is nonetheless the leader of the people on earth by virtue of his status as a prophet. Jesus being identified as “Teacher” is also important because Mark’s audience, the Gentiles, was relatively new to the faith, and Mark wanted to stress that Jesus was a model for them to serve God before serving themselves during the persecutions.…

An atmosphere of awe and overtakes the gospel, telling of a more than ordinary human being, Jesus. When he calls the first disciples, they follow without question, no explanation being given or needed; they seem simply to be drawn by his personality (Mark 1:18-20; 2:14). When he sends the disciples to commandeer a mount, they depart without question and the…

The four Gospels in the bible are accredited to four writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The gospels were split into two groups, which consisted of the synoptic Gospels and John’s gospel. The synoptic gospels consisted of Matthew, Mark and Luke’s gospels. The reason for this was because of the difference between the writings. The synoptic gospels were considered similar, but John did not really contain the same similarities that the other three writings had in common.…

When it comes to combining the two gospels it honestly would change the outcome of each story. If we were to put Matthews ending which is him wanting to dismiss Mary that wouldn 't fit in Luke’s gospel because that is never mentioned. 2. The two accounts differ from each other because they were written by two different people. When two people want to write about the same thing, of course there is going to be a conflict of interest.…

With the Gospel of Mark being the original of the synoptic Gospels, it is held to a higher esteem and level of honesty than the other ones. It is shown in the writing that Jesus is THE holy figure that is placed here on Earth to fix the mistakes that the Pharisees was spreading. He recruited 12 disciples to go on the journey with him. Knowing how dangerous the task of reformation was, Jesus tried to keep his identity a secret, and only disclosing it to few. He spoke in parables so they way everyone “knows” what he is talking about, but they do not comprehend what he is saying, not even his apostles.…

With four gospels in the New Testament, there are many different ways Jesus could be represented. Each one paints a different portrait, some more similar than others due to a common source. In the Gospel of Matthew, the author chooses to focus on the teaching and prophecy fulfilling aspects of Jesus over the other possible views. The stories and references were carefully chosen to be suit the intended audience of the author, showing the savior who they needed the most. The gospel of Matthew was written anonymously around 80-90 AD and its genre closely resembles an ancient biography.…

There are many differences that I observed while reading the accounts of Matthew and Mark. To begin, in the Gospel of Matthew the words have to be read more slowly and capturing the meaning of the stories than in the Gospel of Mark. Second, the Gospel of Matthew focused more on the teachings of Jesus than on his actions in Gospel of Mark. Third, in my perspective the portrait of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew is a teaching savior whereas to in the Gospel of Mark just does things. To sum it up, as I do not think that the Gospel of Matthew is better than the Gospel of Mark to they are about equal, but in my opinion the Gospel of Matthew’s descriptions of Jesus’ teachings are more in depth and uses scripture out of context and combines it with…

The New Testament consists of the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Each of the Gospels is created from four different viewpoints on the ministry, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The New Testament consists of four different accounts of Jesus; however three of them are very closely related. The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are considered “synoptic” due to their similarities regarding the story of Jesus. Overall marks accounting of Jesus can be said to be also shrouded in mystery, that mystery being shown in the vague description at the end of Mark when they go in the two and only see the cloth of Jesus but not him himself. Marks gospel mostly speaks of Jesus’s revelation of the Kingdom of Heaven or God’s kingdom instead of his own status as the messiah or child of God himself. Jesus’s role according to Mark was simply put to deliver the word and teachings. One can Say that God’s word is “Begotten”, as in the how Mary got pregnant or how the world came to be. Gospel means the good news, there is no genealogy or birth narrative but the good news of ‘the career of Christ as well as his death and resurrection’(Aune,1987, p. 17).As the second book of the New Testament, Gospel of Mark is one of the four canonical gospels and the three synoptic gospels. Originally, it was considered as ‘an epitome of Mathew’ (Perkin, 2009, p.57), and accounts for the position as ‘the earliest of the gospels’ (Brown, 1997, p.164). It mainly tells the ministry of Jesus, from his baptism to his death, as well as the burial and the discovery of the empty tomb. Jesus is portrayed as a heroic man of action, an exorcist and a healer.…
