The concept of love has enraptured the minds of hopeless romantics, poets, and artists ever since humankind has been aware of the true power that the love for another person beholds. Never has man come across an allure so distinctively addictive and appealing as the entrancing nature of love. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare has forever been held as the paragon of all romantic tragedies. A young love so pure in such a tainted world alongside an oppressing feud that continuously scrutinizes every effort that the two make to retain happiness; it is a classic that will stand the test of time. West Side Story cleverly manipulates the plotline of the original story of forbidden love with the depiction of Tony and Maria instead. In both Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story, classic romantic scenes between two lovers are portrayed in a similar fashion proving that indeed, the two stories are more alike in nature than different.
