In the “Allegory of the Cave”, one prisoner breaks free from the chains. His curiosity causes him to escape and go to the outside world. When the prisoners are first “ liberated and compelled suddenly to stand up and turn his neck round and walk and look towards the light… he will suffer sharp pains; the glare will distress him, and he will be unable to see the realities of which in his former before was an illusion (Plato 31-36) Since the prisoners were aware of the outside world, they had a difficult time believing in the true reality. The prisoner thought that the shadows were clear to him, and was denying the truth about the real world. The escapee was able to move freely, and turn his neck in any direction. Indicating, that one of his first acts of becoming enlightened was learning how to properly move. The prisoners only light source appeared through the vision of the shadows. Therefore, the prisoner's eyes weren’t accustomed to brightness of the sun, and the sun’s beaming rays were hurting his eyes. He believed living in darkness, is easier than living in the light and knowing the truth about the world. The process of becoming enlightened was challenging for the prisoner, it create many obstacles for him to overcome. For example, he had to adjust to the light, in order for him to see clearly. In The Matrix, Neo goes through a relatable process as the escapee prisoner. Neo is taking out of the Matrix, and is shown the real world guided by Morpheus. The real world is actually a revolution between artificial intelligence who disguise themselves as federal agents and the human race.
