At first she did not think she was incorporating psychosocial interventions but I knew that was not true because I have been side by side with her for five 8hr shifts. At the end of the day we revisited this discussion and I told her that I believe psychosocial interventions are embedded into her daily approach as she uses a client-centered approach. Before seeing each patient we conduct a thorough chart review to ensure we are using a client-centered, holistic approach. More than that, her excellent bedside manner that allows the patient to feel safe as they are amidst a chaotic hospital environment. Comparing her bedside approach to what I have seen out of the nurses, she is able to obtain more accurate information because of the warmth she brings into the room. This results in patients being more receptive and open with their answers as she displays a great deal of empathy. This also allows me to grow as a student because the patients are more comfortable with having a student in the room due to her therapeutic approach.
