“Cheerleading involves a combination of strength, flexibility, balance and coordination akin to other competitive sports like gymnastics or dance” (Raza, 2016). In 2016 the International Olympic Committee recognized cheerleading as a sport. Yet not many people recognize cheerleading a sport. Cheerleading has already begun applying to be in the Olympic games. Getting any sport to be in the Olympic games is not easy task. Because of the long process you most likely won’t see cheerleading competing in the next Olympic games in 2020. “The ICU will have to petition to become an Olympic Sport.
