There are many times throughout Jeanette’s life you could start this out with. For example, Rex ruined Christmas. He got so drunk that he burned down the christmas tree. He then laughed as the tree and presents the family worked so hard for, burned to the ground. Just to top that incident off before he burned all of the family's holiday spirit he got them kicked out of midnight mass. [Series] Through this process Rex taught his children that no matter how hard you work for something, or if you have everything physically in front of you, all of it can be gone in a blink of an eye. One of Jeanette's biggest wishes was that her father would stop drinking. Rex finally for Jeanette's birthday present decided to become sober. He tied himself to his bed for weeks to get the toxins out of his body. The children were horrified by hearing their father scream. Rex eventually was untied and became sober for the whole summer. Naturally he went back to his old ways. He became a drunk again, and started being gone more and more. This crushed Jeanette. She was so proud and thankful to him for finally sticking to his promise, and then once again in a blink of an eye the dad she needed was gone. The children started to deplore to each other.
