Introduction to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
As millennials have become a larger target audience for hotels and casinos, their need for sustainability has become a pressing issue. Las Vegas resort companies now face another kind of competition against each other; their corporate social responsibility. Many people looking to stay on the Las Vegas strip now look into how “green” these hotels are before choosing where to stay (Green, 2012). The executives and employees describe MGM to be passionate about being socially responsible, whereas one might think it is only about good business (Green, 2012). MGM has donated almost $50 million to various organizations, some of which are concerned with saving the planet. MGM employees have also had more than 113,000 hours of community service, with about 850 agencies. The Nevada governor gives out a Points of Light award for companies who are outstanding in activism in their communities, and MGM resorts won this in 2012 (Hard, 2013).
Conclusion
MGM Resorts International has worked tremendously hard to become a front-runner in corporate social responsibility for resort casinos. According to Cindy Ortega, MGM Resorts International's chief sustainability officer, "We have the size and scale to make a difference when we incorporate sustainable practices throughout our operations... Embracing sustainable practices has the power to make a difference in the lives of our guests and employees, in our communities and for our planet" (Haugen, 2012). With MGM’s continued efforts, they will help lead the corporate world into a sustainable future.
