These are the three components to help an individual see media through a different lens. Personal locus is what your goals and desires are and how that shapes the way you view media. The more opinionated you are about your goals and desires the more narrow your view will be. For example if you are a strong democrat and you view something on the news about how Donald trump is going to “make America great again,” then you will see it in the aspect of negative media rather then seeing he is trying to win peoples vote just like Hilary Clinton. There has been several facts released that point to that fact he is innocent. Rather then just calling him a cheater because he is on a different team then the one you root for try to break down the story and build or own form of knowledge structure. Another example of how to use media literacy is during this presidential race. Just because you are a strong republican doesn’t mean that what ever Hilary says is dumb. Or if you are a democrat whatever trump says isn’t always dumb. The presidential race is a great way to test out the skills you have learned about being media literate. You should use the skills of “how” and “why” on all of the points that both candidates state. Then analyze and evaluate all the points that you have gathered and form your knowledge structure
