Bribery Case Summary

Decent Essays
Prosecution: Chase Covington

Theme: Follow the briefcase...follow the truth.

The briefcase will lead us to the truth because it is the only piece of evidence that we can test for fingerprints. By testing the fingerprints, we can prove, as the prosecution that Covington did exchange briefcases with Avery Bancroft at the poker table. Accepting the bribery of two-hundred and fifty thousand to issue Bancroft a gambling license. Therefore, the briefcase leads us to the truth.
Theory: Covington is guilty of bribery because he meets all three requirements needed to be prosecuted. The first requirement is if the accused is a public official, the second requirement, is did he receive something of value, and the third requirement was if the accused was giving something of value back. In order to prove, that he meets these requirements, is by using Corey Hyde, Devyn Delesto and Pat Strikosky. Hyde contributes to the prosecution because he was Bancroft’s executive assistant and his able to testify that Covington and Bancroft were in plans to exchange money over a gambling license. Delesto, the bellhop, will testify that when he took the snacks and drinks to Bancroft and Covington that he saw an exchange of the briefcases. Moreover, Strikosky, will be able to prove that the fingerprints of Covington are on the briefcase with two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. While, the fingerprints of Bancroft are on the briefcase with the gambling license. Defense: Avery Bancroft Theme: Entrapment is what cops do to innocent people. Mickey Keenan entrapped Avery Bancroft by using his executive assistant Corey Hyde and Delesto, the bellhop as the middle agents.

Keenan used Hyde and Delesto as his eyes and ears where he could not be present physically. He made Hyde wear wire trap in that crucial meeting between Covington and Bancroft, where the “so called” exchange was to take place. Keenan was able to hear all the information that was being discussed through the wire trap. Delsesto, was Keenan’s other set of eyes because Delseto was sent to witness the exchange of the briefcases. With the excuse that he was bringing up snacks and water. Therefore, cops entrap innocent people. Theory: In order to prove, that Avery Bancroft, is not guilty of entrapped and that Mickey Keenan organized the crime, defense will have to prove that it was beyond his character to commit such a crime. The three witness I will use are are Danny Hoy, the head of security, Ali Thomas, the blackjack dealer, and J.D Lorean. Hoy, will be able to testify that in the room that the alleged exchanged occurred, Bancroft was notified that there were blind spots in the room in which the security cameras of the hotel were not able to monitor. Thomas, would testify that he believes he saw an exchange between Covington and Bancroft under the blackjack table. However, is uncertain of the exchange. J.D Lorean, is a linguistic translator and would be able to prove that the that the wire transcriptions were staged and therefore should not be used in court as evidence. Defense: Chase Covington Theme: Such a waste of time, they chased headlines over crimes. As the defense team, we will prove that committed a crime was out of character for Mr. Chase Covington. Keenan’s priority was not catching a criminal but creating a headline. He wanted to be seen as the detective

You said this speech does provide good insight into how Greek culture continues to parallel good behavior in one’s personal life and good behavior in public policy. I am confused because one can have a very good character rand morale in his or her private life, which is mostly at home and around his or her relatives and friends, although he/she can have a mean and deceptive character in the public sphere. Could it be? According to this speech by Lysias, Defense against a Charge of Taking Bribes, he defends himself, but it does not seem that he got some solid evidences to show his innocence.…

In September of 1998 the case became more highly focused on Clinton himself. While Starr did his investigation, he had to turn evidence over to Congress. The reason for this is described in a journal by Tod Lindberg. He mentions that, “The law requires the independent counsel to forward to Congress evidence of impeachable offenses by the president or other officials” (5). This means anything Starr found impeachable against Clinton had to be turned over with no exceptions.…
