After reading the first eleven chapters of the book of Genesis, I have a better understanding of how and why man was created. It also helps show what happened to man. Four major events that describe happened within these chapters. Warren W. Wiersbe says that these chapters “deal the humanity in general” (Wiersbe, 2007, p.12). Genesis begins with God creating the earth, the fall of man, the great flood and Babel. These are the four most significant components found within the beginning chapters of Genesis. Creation, the fall, the great flood, and the languages barriers of Babel are very significant to the Christian reader in contemporary society. Creation is the only valid explanation of how the earth was created. It is absurd to think that because of an explosion we now have absolutely amazing life and order. An explosion has never created order before. The fall is something that we live with on a daily basis. We no longer have that direct relationship with God after man was kicked out of the garden. There are so many bad things happening today (wars, poverty, hunger, same sex marriages) that are due to the fall. The great flood was God’s way of cleansing the earth, yet once again, man fell. The result we see today from the flood is the rainbow after a great rain. It is God’s promise to man that He will never flood the entire earth again. Due to the incidents that happened in Babel, we now have major language barriers. These barriers are not only language barriers today, but also cultural barriers throughout the world and even in the same country. Anyone can flip on the news and see the major conflicts that we have due to the cultural barriers we have within our own nation. This is directly because of sin not only from today and the time of Babel, but from the very first sin that took place in the
