In 2006 after 6 years of long talks and courtesies. Bluestar the largest subsidiary of ChemChina, a leading position company in china in industrial cleaning products, membrane, and water treatment products, had just achieve to acquire Adisseo, a French company which was the first one to synthesize methionine.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
After the negotiation was settling and the acquisition was successful, the executives were concern about their positions as well as the employees from Adisseo. It was bluestars first cross-border acquisition and they where very concern of the size of transaction and what does it represent to the company and the industry so both companies, Adisseo and Bluestar, had a lot of support from international advisors in order to have a smooth and good agreement to both parts.
Ren was very involved in the negotiations and manage to convince Adisseo labor committee to accept an support the decision, because he explain his trajectory, the philosophy and objectives in the future for the company.
3. What major challenges did Bluestar face after the deal? What do you think Bluestar should do to effectively boost its integration with Adisseo?
The major challenges that Bluestar face where what to do with the executives of Addiseo when the retention plan was over, should they try to integrate their culture to addiseo company or let them operate as they know, should they made personal cuts in order to boost productivity, and from my point of view the most important decision they should take was either or not transfer methionine technology to China in order to reduce costs and have more competitive prices and adapt to the Chinese
