This particular case study is about a 23 year old Caucasian American. She is working on her bachelor degree at Appalachian State. This case study will focus on Erikson’s Psychological Theory on how biological, psychological, family, and environmental foundations have shaped the case examples life. I will use Erikson’s theory of development and apply it to the case study’s life explaining factors that have impacted his life. This paper will conclude on the case study’s life and how it will influence the subject in becoming the best professional social worker they can be.

She was constantly subjected to an environment in which she felt as though she did not fit in. The subjects faced constant scrutiny from her teachers and constant bullying from her peers. When the subject reached the 9th grade she had faced far too much negativity related to schooling so she deicide to move schools. It was not until her junior year in high school that she found a safe schooling environment. It was a smaller Christian private school on the outskirt of her town. There were approximately 42 students and 3 teachers. She developed wonderful relationship with her peers and teachers. In relation to Erikson’s developmental theory he recognized the importance of teacher and peer relationships along with parents (Austrian, S. G.,2008). Erickson’s psychological stages are labeled by him to be “the first crisis and so on. "By crisis, Erikson does not mean overwhelming stress, but rather a turning point in the life of the individual, when a new problem must be confronted and mastered (DiCaprio, 1974)”. In this case example the subject has encountered many of crisis in her life. I would like to focus on the crisis involved with stage 3 imitative vs. guilt (ages4-5). During this time the subjects father and mother divorced leaving the subject seemingly fatherless. She did not receive the encouragement and support to make choices. She developed aggressive behaviors and was unable to do things alone. She went from the 3rd crisis into stage 4 Industry vs. inferiority. This stage is viewed as “socially the most decisive stage” according to Erikson. The involvement of peers and teachers did not socially do well for the subject. Her interaction with this stage did not reach a healthy place. She began feeling mistrust in the people she was supposed to look to for guidance during this transition. Failing to overcome intimacy and isolation has led to many problems thought many years. Issues with other crisis have evolved into severe trust issues throughout her adult life with friends and intimate partners.
