Because of these experiences, he has become a stronger person squelching the rude comments people his culture say about homosexuals. He has developed a sense of relentless when it comes to others ridiculing him and will not stay quiet when that time comes. He is not afraid to speak out even if his own family is the one being rude. The Biopsychosocial model is a model that incorporates biological, psychological and social factors when addressing an individual's’ health (Molton & Jensen, 2010). The model determines the importance and significance of all three factors in coping with illness. It assumes that a relationship exists between thoughts, behaviors, socioeconomic environment and culture among other factors (Molton & Jensen, 2010). The model identifies potential for psychosocial factors to increase the risk of certain diseases and illnesses. A study conducted by Mesner, Dogra, Logan, Baker and Weir (2010), using the Biopsychosocial model, in a Canadian community of adults 60 and over determined that physical activity contributed to successful aging.…

Historically literature based around alcohol abuse was informed as a male disorder; as such treatment for addiction was tailored towards men’s recovery (Walde, Urgenson, Weltz & Hanna, 2002). Dealing with mother’s considered high risk then becomes a topic to consider when incorporating treatment specific for women; therefore, considering what barriers are faced when accessing treatment or medical resources. The biopsychosocial model would reflect on the biological differences between gender and how alcohol consumption absorbs within the body. Additionally, the psychosocial aspects associated in the lives of women would be analyzed including: prevailing expectations of women in society and the stigma associated to deviant behavior which diverges from roles that are prescribed for women (Walde, Urgenson, Weltz & Hanna, 2002). As such, gender-specific treatment would be an asset towards understanding the psychosocial consequences faced by women throughout history, and…

A qualitative approach using interviews was considered appropriate to undertake for this research. This method is applicable when wanting to explore the perspectives of the participant (Green & Thorogood, 2011). It therefore allows for greater capacity to gain more understanding on an individual’s experience of MS and their feelings as to whether exercise has been a benefit. Qualitative research is sometimes referred to as “naturalistic” as it engages with words rather than numbers and the output of the data being studied is kept close to their natural state (Green & Thorogood, 2011, p.22; Hewitt-Taylor, 2011, p.13). Studies exploring the experiences of people with MS are therefore examining the phenomenology of pwMS, which acknowledges…
