Bionano Case Analysis

Decent Essays
Thank you for taking time to meet with me yesterday. I appreciated discussing the organization’s needs, and especially valued you sharing your history of the company. It was exciting to learn about the work that has been done within BioNano to this point, and to know more about the growth opportunities and path forward.

Throughout my career, I have effectively used my hands-on approach, and sense of urgency, to partner with other leaders to drive positive business outcomes. During my tenure at Gen-Probe/Hologic, I delivered programs that produced substantial results in areas including Management and Leadership Development, Core Culture, Employee Onboarding, and Business Acumen. One of my most significant contributions was successful implementation of the full Performance Management system including a module on Career Development. I believe that enabling managers and employees, by giving them the right tools, support and direction, helps drive the performance that a successful and growing organization needs.

Introduction After reading chapter two of ‘Good to Great’ by Collins Jim, I was able to realize why I came to a stall in my last job as well as what skills I need to work on in order to grow as an individual and leader. In the chapter ‘Level 5 Leadership’ Jim Collins uses a chart to use as a reference when assessing yourself as the type of leader you are. This tool allowed me to reflect on what strengths I have but also what is needed of me to grow into the next level of a leader and allow me to be best utilized by my company. This chapter has led me to question whether or not I see a future for myself in my previous job but also has shown me I do have significant qualities that make a great leader, it’s up to oneself to reach the next step. Experience…

Alan Thompson proclaims himself as a sheep herder of sorts; he described it where his employees were his sheep, and he was there where to guide them when they strayed off the correct path. Through our interview, our group has found an individual that embodies the leadership qualities that this course has taught us. Alan’s time as Director of Operations of Texaco Canada, a major lubricant manufacturer that services Heavy Equipment, Truck and Coach, and the Automotive industry as whole, enabled him to put the qualities we feel represent a strong leader. The three aspects for ensuring that an employee grows through leadership is through continuity, capability, and connection. “Through succession management and career development, employees can acquire new skills and be prepared to assume different and higher-level positions in the organization” (Gully & Phillps 10). To corroborate, Conoco’s leadership development program has instituted a continual learning process of strong succession plan where the professional experts would also be able to share their knowledge upon completion.
