Bilbo Baggins In The Hobbit

One of the character that I would like to be is bilbo baggins because he is a kind Hobbit. He is kind because when bilbo could have killed Gollum in the goblin tunnels when Gollum was trying to kill Bilbo, Bilbo had the chance to kill gollum, but he didn’t do it. Another reason why he is kind is because after Gollum, bilbo could have run back home to the Shire, but instead he came back to the dwarves and fought off the orcs with them. He was risking his life so they could get back their homeland, he wanted to help because he felt sorry for them because they didn’t have a home and he was going to try and help the dwarves if he could. The last reason that Bilbo is a kind hobbit is because Bilbo saved Thorin’s life from the orcs. He could have killed himself too, but it didn’t matter to him. I would love to be Bilbo because willing to take that sacrifice for your life would be more than amazing. …show more content…
He is clever because he uses his ring to disappear into the shadows and follow the elves into their castle. Then he frees the dwarves from the prison in the elvish castle, and that shows he is clever. When they are escaping from the elvish castle Bilbo has a very clever idea, that they go into the barrels to go onto the river, they make it to the river successfully and escape the elves. Another way he is clever is when Bilbo figures out that the last light they need to get into the Lonely Mountain was of the moon. He saves the whole quest by figuring it out. All the dwarves are very thankful because he was the only one who didn’t give up. It was because of his cleverness that they got into the mountain and had started the hardest part, getting the gold from smaug, the dragon. I would love to be how clever bilbo was at these parts in the

The Hobbit and Abarat follow the Heroes Journey theme nearly to the tee. Both novels speak of adventure and transport you to a whole other world that touch your heart and will never leave you. “There is no end to that journey, only the next great voyage. We know the future will outlast all of us, but I believe that all of us will live on in the future we make,” (Baker,1). The Hobbit and Abarat show a different world that has no end in sight.…

In chapter 8, the text states that Bilbo was able to free himself from some sticky spider web and kill the spider that trapped him. After that, Bilbo found the dwarves, scared all the spiders away by throwing stones, and then he freed the dwarves with his sword. Knowing this, we can infer that Bilbo has definitely changed from hobbit to hero because the original Bilbo would not have done something so brave and dangerous to save his friends. Along with the spider killing and friend saving, Bilbo was also able to help the dwarves escape from the wood elves by stealing the keys from the guards and floating them down the river in barrels.…

Another one of bilbo’s important skills is intelligence. Intelligence is something that everyone has, but in Bilbo’s case he is more intelligent than he thinks. Throughout the book Bilbo has done things that I wouldn’t have even thought to do. He had to come up with different ways to save the dwarves many times. For example, when Bilbo had to save the dwarves from the wood-elves they had spent days in that palace trapped eating food they didn’t want, and they were being forced to tell them something that they didn’t want to say.…

“He did not wish to desert the dwarves, and indeed he did not know where in the world to go without them(174).” His desire was not to desert the Dwarfs and even if it was his desire, helping the had become like second nature and he didn’t what else he would do. Like a true hero Biblo had already given up his desires of being back in his hobbit hole and wanted to help the Dwarfs in any possible way. The Dwarfs being captured brought out a lot of great traits in Bilbo, obviously selflessness, courage, and cleverness. Another time Bilbo showed complete selflessness was when he gave the Arkenstone to Bard and the Lake People.…

Bilbo is frightened and cautious in the book, but is a leading character in the movie. Which makes Bilbo look like a weaker hero. Bilbo’s scared of the eyes in the dark, “And sometimes they would gleams down from the branches just above him; and that was most terrifying,” (Tolkien 141). The reason Bilbo is weaker in the book is his actions when he is scared…

People often refuse to help their neighbor because of their narcissistic apathy and consequently make the world an unpleasant place. Yet, in every generation exists a human, or hobbit, willing to face their own personal discomfort, correct their shyness and immaturity, and serve others to make the world a virtuous place. Bilbo Baggins grows into this role by helping his friends regain their home from the clutches of an evil dragon named Smaug. In The Hobbit, J.R.R. Tolkien proves Bilbo undergoes a maturation through his new ability to assert himself in a group setting, his rejection of material goods, and his acquisition of self-confidence as the journey progresses, which proves the novel demonstrates an example of a bildungsroman. Bilbo gains a new ability throughout the journey to…

Cleverness is a skill that Bilbo didn’t have in him at the beginning of the adventure. “Many a time afterwards the Baggins part regretted what he did now, and he said to himself: “Bilbo you were a fool; you walked right in and put your foot on it.”” (Tolkien 23) When the dwarves first meet Bilbo, they are able to convince him into going on the adventure with them by comparing him to a grocer. Bilbo’s growth in confidence can be shown towards the end of the novel when he is faced by Smaug. While wearing the ring, as Bilbo enters the cave Smaug can smell him and asks who he is (Tolkien, Ch. XII, 204). At this point is where Bilbo uses riddles to confuse Smaug and try and find his weak spot. The only reason that Bilbo went inside the cave in the first place was because the dwarves turned to Bilbo for leadership.…
