Big Brothers Big Sisters: Personal Statement

I have always known that I wanted to serve in the justice system, but my interest in law school truly began in high school with experiences such as my involvement in Big Brothers Big Sisters. As a Big Sister, I learned that there are many children in the world that need an advocate to give them a voice within the system. My interest in a legal career was further piqued during my attendance at Sunflower Girls State where I was able to attend a real trial with the District Attorney and participate in mock trials. Experiences such as these both inspired and encouraged me to set my goals towards law school.
Although I have finished my undergraduate degree quickly, the quality of my education has not suffered. College has given me experiences through internships and service that affirms my intentions to enter the legal field with a passion to become a tenacious advocate in the community. I believe that I will succeed in law school because I will be entering the program with a purpose, I have a strong work ethic that proves I am able to overcome challenges by working hard both inside and outside of the classroom, and I have been academically successful.

In the spring semester of 2015, I started a paid internship at Woner, Glenn, Reeder, and Girard, P.A. During this time I have gained experience in legal research and language by helping prepare documents and observing proceedings. In addition, I have been able to work side by side with two female attorneys. Even in a small firm, they are the minority, which coincides to the other areas of the justice system. I think it is important that women enter into this profession and add the diversity that is deeply needed; I believe I am a good candidate to contribute to this
