Soul Surfer I chose to research on Bethany Hamilton. I chose her because she is very inspiring. I think this because many people doubted her and told her that she wouldn’t do anything she could do before she lost her arm. In the following paragraphs I will tell you about Bethany’s life before and after the attack. Bethany Meilani Hamilton was born on February 8, 1990, in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii. Her parents are Thomas and Cherilyn Hamilton. Bethany has two brothers, Noah and Timothy. Noah is eight years older than Bethany and is married to Becky. Timothy is four years older than Bethany and is married to Kyah. Bethany and her older brothers were taught to surf at a very young age. While lying on her board, Bethany suddenly felt intense pressure on her left arm and was pulled back and forth for a few seconds before the flurry passed. She felt no pain at first, she realized it had happened when she looked at the water and saw that it was red, it was then that her friends noticed that her arm was gone at the shoulder. "I was holding onto my board, with my thumb, because I probably didn't want to get pulled under. It was like pulling me back and forth, not like pulling me under water. Just like, you know how you eat a piece of steak? It was kind of like that.", said Bethany of the attack. Alana's father saved Bethany’s life by performing a technique with his surfboard leash. Bethany was rushed to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, where she kicked her dad out of the room due to the lack of rooms in the hospital. She lost approximately 60% of her blood that day. She underwent many surgeries in the following weeks, but finally returned home with media at her doorstep. Soon after she returned home they discovered that she had been attacked by a 14-foot tiger shark, they confirmed this by comparing the shark bite on Bethany’s
