Vygotsky came up with the zone of proximal development (ZPD) which assesses cognitive development by addressing how a child can perform a specific task in collaboration with others. To use the zpd there must be a joint task that creates the learning environment the expert and the learner. The expert leads by giving directions or strategies that help the learner be successful in the learning situation and with much practice and support the learner can master the task.(Reutzel & Cooter. I choose these two because as a mother I have personally seen my own children go through stages while learning to talk starting with cooing and then babbling and on to one word utterances and so on the one thing I don 't know that I agree on is the age gaps that go with each stage I believe every child goes through the stages but possibly not according to the ages stated. The second view I chose is the Social Interactionist view I feel the environment and interactions a child are subjected to play a role in their oral language development. I feel this way due to my own children and the students I teach on a daily basis, I have a couple students who started the year off with little to no interaction with adults or myself as their teacher and through out the year they have gained confidence and oral language and will speak to us with out becoming shy. They started off by barely speaking and now will speak with three to six word sentences, I feel the interactions and support they receive in school has helped them
