Infant Conversational Skills

Decent Essays
Infants learn conversational skills through routinized activities, which includes game playing and daily routines (Owens, 012, p. 139). You mentioned some good language games that mothers and caregivers can play with infants that would help with their language development.
I believe that the more the parents and caregiver talks to the infant, the more conversational and social skills they will develop.
Do you think that infants will be able to develop these skills if their parents or caregiver does not interact with them? Why or why not?
Here is a YouTube video of the different infant developmental stages https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FreXRAhTQs.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas in your post.

I learned a lot from this OIR that will affect my future teaching career hopefully in a better approach. I learned that some children develop slower than others and some develop quicker. All children achieve milestones at different times in their lives. Seeing that some children need a little extra help (guidance in independence and taking responsibility) and some children don’t, show that when I’m a teacher, I’m going to have to accommodate to these children’s needs as much as possible. I also learned that some children need more time than others to develop.…

In the article, “Feelings: How and what does a Baby Understand,” by Dr. Paul Holinger. Holinger explains how important it is for adults to speak to infants and very young kids. He also states children understand more than we think. Infants may not be able to communicate verbally, but they are able to communicate through body language and affects. Holinger feels it’s necessary to speak to an infant, even though the infant can’t respond back verbally.…

A child develops language skills before being able to speak. When caregivers read out loud to infants and children, we demonstrate the importance and enjoyment of language. All children learn and use language whilst playing. It is a good idea to use toys like puppets to encourage their language and speech development. By using puppets or even dolls, children can be encouraged to talk as they might use word related to the puppets or dolls whilst role playing. To encourage speech and communication, role play and dressing up can also be used and adults can also interact with the children. (0-2years) Developmental milestones in regards to language in children before the age of 18 months are that they are already partaking in worthwhile interactions with both their mothers and fathers or any other significant caregiver, making various vocalisations such as Mama, Dada etc. At this age if children are able sing, they are also capable of showing an advanced diversity or words by the age of 12 months. After reviewing the video during week two, the first information that I would deliver to an expecting mother concerning language development, would be the amazing things that happens before birth that can affect the language development as well as the negative things. According to author Annie Paul Murphy, during the prenatal stages if the infant is exposed to certain environmental factors such as drugs, diseases, or alcohol and many more. These exposures can lead to complications in the brain development during pregnancy, therefore, this can delay the cognitive development in the infant as it grows. Cognitive development in infancy is dramatic as an infant learns how to explore through curiosity from his or her surrounding (Berger, 2016).…

For example, talking to the baby about their plans and what they were going to have for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The mother also sings to her baby and tries to engage him in manipulative activities. The two-year old was my third interview and the parent were very involved. They read to her before bedtime and she was engaged through just half of the book before she wanted to take over and “read” on her own. The parents also interact through audio music and nursery rhythms which from my observation she is able to mimic songs and pronounce a few words which made me proud to hear that they find time to enhance her literacy…

Conclusion Baby talk is a simplified speech register having special lexical items and constructions, but it is mostly identified by its distinctive paralinguistic…
