The terms structure and direction can seem overwhelming and difficult to understand, but when trying to comprehend certain issues, events, or ideas, those terms can help in the distinguishing between right and wrong. Structure and direction can also help in understanding how some things are the way they are and how they got that way. Everyone can have their own ideas of how structure and direction apply to certain issues also, which sometimes allows for disagreement. Using my own interpretation of structure and direction, as well as some help from Albert M. Wolters, I am going to explain how they connect with Mark Charles' lecture through an analysis and evaluation of it.…
Important Points Paper In this chapter the two points that I found important were symbolic interactionism and social integration. Symbolic integration is important because without it there would be no meaning to anything we do. On one side there would be no forms of learning, no titles for anything, and no way to correlate patterns or relationships. On the other side of things there would be no social status or war we would just be like our ancestors in the early days of humankind going off of instinct.…
Research and explain how current practice is influenced by Theories of development include; Piaget – Intellectual, Freud – psychoanalytic, Maslow – Humanist, Bandura – Social Learning, Skinner – Operant Conditioning, Watson – Behaviourist. Also explain how you holistically use these theories to work together e.g. EYFS – Holistic approach to learning is known as social pedagogy The theorist whose theory is physical development is Arnold Gesell. His theory is that most physical skills cannot be taught but is programmed in our genetics, which means we will learn different physical skills when our body is ready to. In our setting, we support this by encouraging children but not forcing them to develop a physical skill.…
The “Pattern or Practice” claim made within this letter addresses the use of deadly force the Albuquerque police officers uses during the officers everyday shifts. The investigation, which the writers of the letter contacted, concluded with, “… we have reasonable cause to believe that APD engages in a pattern or practice of use of excessive force, including deadly force, in violation of the Fourth Amendment and Section 14141,” (page one). The factual claim the letter is making is the fact police officers are using deadly forces in an unconstitutional manner. Through the unconstitutional shootings, the police are losing the trust of the community. The lack of support is making the job of the department harder than it needs to be.…
The Conflict Theory’s focus point is class, gender, race/ethnicity, age, and inequality. At Manassas High School the minority enrollment is 100% of the student body, while the average for the state of Tennessee is 35%. After their first win against a 3A/4A school the cops did not allow them to shake hands, they told their team to get on the bus and go home. It is ironic how a majority white team use to pay a majority black team $3,000 to get their butts kicked, but when the majority black team wins the majority white team does not want to shake hands. Manassas was at the bottom of their class, “there is a lot of folks out east of here that don’t think we belong”, said by Courtney.…
This assignment will be investigating patient choice in relation to personalisation, the rational for this chosen topic is because Evidence Based Practice (EBP) is largely weighed in patient preferences, which will be explored throughout this essay. Sackett et al. (1996) describes EBP as ‘the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients.’ The main driver behind EBP in health and social care is ‘the delivery of the best possible care, for professional accountability and to avoid negligence claims.’ (Aveyard, 2013)…
The conflict theory is defined to be the idea that different groups and individuals are in competition with one another in society. The ideas of the conflict theory are reflected thus in regards to deviance. Ferris and Stein explain in The Real World: An Introduction to Sociology that deviance is defined by “norms, rules, and laws” through social control. The Marxist theory states that there is a constant conflict of social classes for scarce resources and the means of production that leads to deviant behavior (“Theories of Deviance; Conflict Theory”).…
For the athletes to learn the hitting skill correctly, it is important to look at the sessions practice design. Motor learning occurs through practice or experience (Hoffman, 2018c). As the hit has both a start and finish, it will be viewed as a discrete skill. Massed vs Distributed Practice Massed practice is where activities in each session are performed closely together. Distributed practice is where activities in each session are spread apart and there are a greater number of sessions each week (Hoffman, 2018c).…
Black Lives Matter fits into the conflict theory as well. An interesting thing to note is one of the three founders of Black Lives Matter, Alicia Garza is influenced by Malcom X, who was classified as a conflict theorist, and she too describes herself as one embracing the conflict theory. Black Lives Matter is protesting African Americans being denied the right to being treated equally especially in situations involving the police. American Americans feel profiled for their race and are being treated with unjust and sometimes deadly brutality by law enforcement. The conflict theory is being engaged in both movements, the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Lives Matter…

One’s sociological imagination will vary from person to person as it is partially based off his or her experiences. In more simplistic terms it can be depicted as one’s ability to connect his or her own particular problems and relate them back to a more social level that others may have in common. The sociological imagination is a very interesting yet complex component in one’s life. It is a real eye opener. There are many aspects one’s sociological imagination can touch upon such as social class and inequality, gender, culture and socialization, deviance and criminality, etc.…
Critical discussion of Pierre Bourdeui’s written works: Pierre Bourdieu produced many influential pieces of text throughout his life time, but no three were import to his contribution to anthropology than the three discussed below. Each piece of text contributes a small section to an overarching theory of the development of society Bourdieu is trying to create that explains the reproduction and maintenance of society. The “Outline of a Theory of Practice” (1977) is one of Bourdieu’s most accliamed pieces of writing. Bourdieu in this text closely examines the previous practices which have dominated the understanding of human actions have failed in truly understanding them.…
In class, Professor Gerschick explained that theories are systematic attempts to make sense of a particular event or social phenomena that occurs in a given social setting. Depending on the given theorist, each had an individualistic approach to a particular phenomenon and their purpose was to lay out a way to interpret the facet of that social life (Kivisto). Each theory has a goal and that is to explain, predict and/or to understand the phenomena being explained (Gershcick). In order for a theory to be considered one, it must be capable of being applied on both macro and micro levels. Different levels of analysis must be present, as well as different units.…
Reading the text, the first important ideas that interested me were coping with pressures, identifying legal and ethical issues, diversity in the work setting, and looking ahead. The reason I found coping with pressures important because in the book it communicates that when you first start at a practicum site there is a transitional phase. Moreover, the book goes on to give effective strategies to help adjust to all the pressures that can happen when first starting a practicum. For instance, the book states (Chiaferi & Griffin, 1997) that it is important to understand that we affect our practicum experience, so it is important to remember to be aware of how we react or how we handle our own attitudes.…
