Massed vs Distributed Practice
Massed practice is where activities in each session are performed closely together. Distributed practice is where activities in each session are spread apart and there are a greater number of sessions each week (Hoffman, 2018c). Research shows massed practice as more beneficial for long term learnings (Hoffman, 2018c). This session is based upon massed practice. Intraskill was used during the first two drills. Players were asked to hit the wall at differing distances, followed by aiming at a moving target at varying distances (Hoffman, 2018c). The interskill is a variable skill for best learning in different contexts. One of the most important mindsets to have before stepping out on the field hockey field, or any field for that matter, is to understand what it is to persevere. To understand what it means to persevere is to understand that you can find the strength to pick yourself up in the last two minutes of the game, put in your best work, and score the winning goal as the buzzer sounds. I always strive to persevere with every minute left in the game and I carry that same mindset off the field. Perseverance is a core value that I take with me in every aspect of my life whether it be sports, school, or helping others.…
