Ariely seems to be writing the essay for the victims of cheater's. The author makes use of negative connotation to show that people started to lie which resulted in the loss of "hundred dollars to the big cheaters", on the other hand, he used the words "we lost thousands and thousands of dollars to them" show that Ariely and his colleagues have lost most of the money to cheaters who cheated "just a little" because there were many of them. (Ariely)

2. The BODY of "Why we Lie" has three fairly distinct sections-paragraph 4-9, 10-14, and 15-21. What is the focus of each section? How does Ariely ensure that his essay has UNITY and COHERENCE? The paragraphs 4-9 primarily focus on the basic reasons why people tend to lie or cheat. The paragraphs provide a detailed description of the "matrix" experiment and when the Arisley and his colleagues compared the results of control condition and shredded condition (possibility for subjects to cheat on matrix task), they found out that the shredded condition has twice as many as the control condition, in other words, control condition had solved 4 matrixes while shredded condition solved 6 matrixes. Paragraph 10-14 focuses on the reason why people tend to cheat or lie, it also shows that people tend to cheat when other students are cheating. Paragraph 15-21 conclude the idea that many good people cheat "just by little" during the tasks while few people tried to steal to their maximal. It also proved that the control condition had fewer numbers in most of its task than the others who were brought randomly or by a shredded condition. Ariely ensures his essay to have unity and coherence by making the sentences logical and clear by using redundancy. Ariely also ensures the unity of the essay by using the same format throughout the whole essay, that is asking a question and answering it in his terms. Questions on Language 1.
