We really do not know whether or not the government can actually have the budget to keep the program running. Even if it can the program is dealing with many problems of their own. According to Kristen Wyatt, one of the writers of the associated press on ABC News, writes that,” a town of 13,000 where a clinic providing abortions was recently vandalized with a hatchet”. In 1938, their birth control clinic joined the American Birth Control League, which was renamed Planned Parenthood in 1942 because some found the original name to be offensive. They expanded their health care services in 1952, starting in India, and eventually expanded to Chile, Singapore, Sweden, and many other countries. In fact, the opposite is true. “Halting federal funds to Planned Parenthood would shrink spending by $520 million in the short run – but, over the first decade, it would cost taxpayers an additional $650 million,” an article from the Washington Post stated. The article also stated that taking the PPFA away “would take basic health care away from people who need it most --- those who are struggling to get by, who rely on Medicaid or have no health insurance.” The only way these people would be able to get the health care they need would be by a visit to the emergency room, which is much more expensive than an ordinary doctor’s appointment and is payed for by taxpayers. Additionally, as patients no longer had access to birth control or safe abortions (which, by the way, aren’t funded by the government), the number of unplanned births would increase.…

By preventing Planned Parenthood from receiving federal money, it means people with government funded health care cannot use it for the services provided at the clinics. Many people do not know the exact statistics of the services Planned Parenthood provide, and because of that they may have skewed ideas of the clinic. Without federal funding Planned Parenthood patients who use government provided health care would have to pay for all of the services of the clinic out of their own pocket (Bassett). For people with private health care, this would not be an issue, but for others who lack the money to pay for private health care, they may be in trouble. Planned Parenthood has said that two-thirds of their patients are “low-income and have no other primary health care provider” (Bassett).…

Planned Parenthood is currently under a great deal of scrutiny concerning whether or not they violated Federal Law by selling aborted baby parts. The Federal Government is also trying to decide if they should cut the $500 million of funding that Planned Parenthood receives. While Planned Parenthood may have been breaking Federal Law, I do not believe that the government should defund them. Planned Parenthood does much more than just abortions; they do STI/STD testing and treatment, provide multiple types of contraception, cancer screenings and prevention, pregnancy tests and prenatal services, adoption referrals to other agencies, and urinary tract infection treatments. All of these services are available for men, women, and teenagers.…

Regardless of what your view on abortion is, the indisputable truth is that what planned parenthood is doing is very meaningful, and undoubtedly, lifesaving work. They administer essential health care services to 2.7 million women, men, and young people all across the country, the majority of which can not obtain medical assistance any other way. So defunding planned parenthood wouldn't mean defunding abortion it would means fighting against affordable healthcare. The organization is more than just an abortions clinic, women and men need planned parenthood and women have the right to their bodies and fighting planned parenthood would be to fight against that fundamental human right (BACHIOCHI). First of all, planned parenthood is more than…
