Over 90 percent of skin cancers are caused by burns from over exposure to the sun. It is one of the few forms of cancer that can be caused by entirely naturally-occurring, normal everyday circumstances, such as simply being outside too long. While we remain dependent on the sun for our lives, it is simultaneously damaging to be exposed to it, especially for prolonged periods of time. The sun is a necessary hazard in life, and thankfully with the aid of sunscreen and some simple shade it can be avoided. Though the sun is a threat to everyone, people with lighter shades of skin must take extra measures to protect themselves from the sun, applying sunscreen, wearing more clothing or even completely avoiding the sunlight for long periods of time.
