Argumentative Essay: Sharia Law

Muslims make up roughly 24% of the global population, numbering in at about 1.8 billion people. Although the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) does not have anywhere near 1.8 billion militant members, their main objective is to establish a caliphate through terrorist attacks and propaganda. Aside from having terrorist groups championing its core messages and morals, Islam also has the most intrusive and restrictive legal systems in place today, and it is known as Sharia Law. Sharia Law focuses on punishment over rehabilitation when it comes to crime, and it is extremely dehumanizing towards women, labeling them as property. This does not mean all Muslims are violent monsters, the vast majority are peaceful people, but even the peaceful people must take some responsibility and denounce the actions of the violent and radical. Islam has a barbaric and dehumanizing legal system that still uses public stonings and beheadings as a form of punishment. Homosexuality and a woman not having four male witnesses to testify that the rape had occured are both offenses punished by death. A woman who is found without her hijab in public is the sexual property of any Muslim man that comes across her. Modern societies based on Christianity don’t have laws such as this, yet Christians are constantly attacked by liberals as the true theological barbarians. With all of this laid out, it should be clear that Islam is an immeasurably cruel religion that seems to be the only one that somehow did not experience the period of enlightenment that Christianity did. Muslim countries need to be held accountable for their people, Muslim people need to condemn their radical counterparts, and the world needs to realize Islam is
