Anthropological Observation Paper

For our Anthropological observation project, we observed SDT, an on-campus sorority at Binghamton University. These letters represent the Greek letters Sigma Delta Tau. SDT relates to the mainstream culture by bringing those with similar interests together. The culture and customs of current college students are represented by all of Greek life. Greek life provides students with the ability to join together, socialize, and participate in philanthropy events. New students are often intrigued to join Greek life due to the encompassment of many attributes people commonly look for in their college experience. Today, they are primarily social groups that participate in socialization, philanthropy, leadership and professional endeavors. Specifically, SDT requires a 2.5 GPA (Grade Point Average) in order to be eligible to join, ensuring that all members are in reasonable standpoints in their classes. In campuses worldwide, Greek life has become recognized as an influential part of the social aspect of college. Today, sororities advertised in media, like movies and TV shows, and have official pages on social media sites like Facebook, Tumblr and Instagram. We believe that over time the interest in sororities will increase on college campuses because of to their philanthropic contributions and career developmental connections. Former Greek students have connected with employers regarding their involvement in the Greek organization. Many students have accepted internships from former Greek students, along with creating connections with employers over an involvement in the same sorority, even at another
