Van Daan and Mr. Frank may deal with adversity differently when facing problems because of their personalities, but when facing injustices about their religious beliefs it's all the same. Everyone including Mr. Van Daan and Mr. Frank sing and pray, some with fear of being caught by the green police, and all in the spirit of the holiday Hanukkah. As she goes on singing, the others gradually join in, their voices still shaking with fear. Mrs. Van Daan sobs as she sings. In act two scene one, “Around the feast . . . we . . . gather. Incomplete . . . jubilation . . . Happiest of the sea . . . sons, Now is here. Many are the reasons for good cheer.” (Pg:323. Hackett) Also from act two scene one, ¨They all freeze in horror, motionless. For a few seconds, there is complete silence.¨ (Pg.320. Hackett) As all members of the annex join in on prayer, Mr. Frank and Mr. Van Daan begin to show the similarity of unified faith. Frank the calm one compared to Mr. Van Daan the crazy one. Each one shows how a different way to deal with adversity. Though they can seem different from one another they both share the same injustice. This injustice that persecutes the Jewish religion causes Mr. Frank and Mr. Van Daan to fear of the green police. It is important to understand this injustice because of its part of what makes us individuals. This way to individualize ourselves is what makes us unique from every other person. By overseeing a situation like Mr. Van Daans and Mr. Franks we are able to analyze how different behaviors create personalities under the same circumstances. For Mr. Van Daan, his impulsive behavior lead him to a self-centered personality. For Mr. Frank, his calculated thinking left him with a calm personality. By understanding both men we are able to see that you can and will overcome adversity differently, considering you are your individual self. Therefore, this all matters in today's world because it helps us make sense of our lives and others in it. Knowing we all act different in our adversites but yet all experience
