Before we consider the problems, there are some things to know about the background of animal testing. The foundation and history of animal testing are fascinating parts of what remains a questionable topic today. Animal testing has a history that is full of discussion. Animal testing first began in the early centuries and it still happens today. Many find animal testing necessary for human health, but over the years failed tests have proved that animals aren’t good models for the human body. Some tests in the past have passed in animal but failed in the human body. The first animal to be tested was One huge factor of why science has traveled too far is the treatment the animals used in laboratories receive. Many animals used in these experiments are tied down and tortured; they have no control over their bodies. Some animals are forced to get injections of medicines that are new and untested in their eyes and all over their bodies. They are used as tests to see if the new invention is safe for humans, but is that fair? The animals that are used in the laboratories are innocent creatures who don’t deserve the treatment they get in the lab. Some animals eyes are forced open to where they can not blink because they are testing cosmetic products. Their eyes become irritated and many end up getting a painful, serious infection, which often leads to the death of the animal. Not only do they receive dangerous and lethal injections, but some animals get their skin burned off in order for the testing to be more accurate, and some animals even get their spinal cords crushed, causing them to die while suffering. Over 100 million animals are poisoned yearly by the injections they receive in the laboratories. The treatment the scientists give the animals is inhumane and unfair. Over 100 million different types of animals are used in laboratories for biology practices. It is estimated that scientist use over 90 percent of all animals in their experiments. They practice on animals such as mice, monkeys, dogs, cats, fish and many more. Over the continuing years of animal testing, extinction rates have been increasing. The present extinction rate is roughly 100 terminations for each million species for each year, or 1,000 times …show more content…
Many people believe that animal testing is necessary for human health. However, many tests have proven that animals make poor test subjects for humans. Many tests that have passed in animals ended up failing in humans. 94% of tests that passed have failed in human trials; for example, over 85 vaccines for HIV worked well in primates but failed in humans. Using animals are testing subjects can lead to misleading research. Science is making biologists kill off animals who are innocent and will most likely fail the tests in humans even if the vaccine worked for the animal. Just like some medicines, such as pills, used in humans are bad for animals, medicines used in animals can end up being bad for humans; it can go both ways. Therefore, animal testing is not necessary for human health and scientists should start to find alternatives that are more accurate and better for human
