Animal cruelty can affect animals from anywhere in the world including at home, in the safari or in the wild. There are many ways to combat Animal Cruelty however you must first know who is abusing them (e.g. Poachers or just a neighbour) and call one of the Organisation or even the police (Preventing Animal Cruelty 2013). Although Animal Rights is the philosophy or idea that all animals should be able to live a life free from human exploitation, pain, suffering and premature death however some people do not believe in this and find it ‘fun’ to hit or otherwise assault an animal or animals and these people are the extremely sadistic ones (Animal Rights 2016). The number of cruelty reports investigated by the inspectorate has increased by around 70% over the past five years. This may be due to enhanced educational and promotion programs and this is generally aided by things such as the RSPCA Animal Rescue TV show and has resulted in improved social awareness of animal welfare issues and a greater understanding of what the RSPCA does and what their responsibilities are in the community. This debate also has many practical consequences such as if animals have a right to live, therefore wrong to kill them at all (Including human consumption) and if animals have a right to liberty meaning it is wrong to hold them in captivity and if animals have a right to pursue happiness and enjoy security, and if so it is wrong to interfere in their natural lives. The governments and organizations make the decisions about who should be granted this power to control exactly what happens with an animal and how a person’s liberty and legal right to life ends when they threaten someone else’s right to life and liberty (Evans, K 2009).
There are many organizations to help deal with Animal Cruelty such as the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) and PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). These organizations regularly investigate cruelty, animal rescue, provide public education, research, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement and host protest campaigns.
