She was rescued by Perseus who slew the beast.

In mythology, Andromeda was the daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia, king and queen of the North African kingdom of Aethiopia. Her mother unwisely boasted that her daughter was far more beautiful than the Nereids, daughters of Nereus, though in some versions, the queen boasts that she herself is more beautiful than the Nereids. Furious, Poseidon sent a horrible sea monster to ravage the coast and kingdom. Desperate to end the attacks, Andromeda's parents consulted the Oracle of Apollo. But her mother was an incredibly vain woman and boasted that her daughter was more fair than the graceful Nereids that swam through the waves. Poseidon was furious that a mortal would dare to compare with the Nereids. So as divine punishment, he sent a terrible sea monster to punish the vain queen by attacking the coast and the kingdom. Seeking to end the punishment, the king and queen consulted with the Oracle of Apollo. To their horror, the only way to save their kingdom was to sacrifice their daughter. Only then would the God's wrath be soothed and their kingdom saved. Andromeda hearing the news, asked her intended to save her, but he was a coward and ran away. Seeing no other way, Andromeda bravely stepped forward, saying she would be sacrificed. Her parents tried to convince her otherwise but Andromeda would not be moved. So with heavy hearts, the king and queen had their daughter chained to the rocks to await her

It is best known among stargazers as home of Praesepe, an open cluster. Cancer is most well known in Greek mythology as the crab sent by the goddess Hera to help the hydra kill Heracles.…
