Tokyo Ghoul: Unravel My Soul
Chapter One: In Every Nothing

Lights from the stage flashed throughout the bar, blinding the crowd as they screamed and danced. Lights in purple, blue, red and yellow circled around them and upon the walls of the massive dance floor. There was a bar to the left, lit by black lights. On the right stood a metal clad staircase that led to an area where people could sit and enjoy their drinks.
The singer was a young girl, with a short build. Her voice was rough, and easily mistakable for that of a teenage boy. Two guitarists stood to the left her, the drummer sat behind her, two violinists stood to the right as her voice echoed from the speakers in the hall.

He leaned against railings that sectioned off the main floor from the bar area. He appeared young, in his early twenty’s, his hair was dark and messy. While he listened, a woman dressed in a black dress stepped up next to him. Her hair was tied up away from her face in a long silky ponytail, and in her hands was a glass filled with blue liquid.
“I’ll never understand why you like this place...”
The young man didn’t move, but he did smile at her as she leaned against the rails, her back turned away from the concert. “It felt like a nice change,” after all this was only his third time at this bar. “Besides the singers got a nice voice, don’t suppose you know her.”
The woman laughed, “Hardly, my company would never take up a female singer which such a hoarse voice. Besides, there’s a rumor that one of the band members is a ghoul. Ghouls are never good for business.”
“If you know they are, you

Kaname’s lips turned upward in a grin.
“I have to say I’m rather fond of those people down there.”
Megumi paused midway, “To each their own, Kaname-san.”

“PHEW! Man that was good did you see the crowd in the end?”
The guitarist was met with silence from the rest of his group. All of whom seemed thoroughly exhausted from their stage.
“Anyone else feel like grabbing a bite after all this?”
The room stayed quiet, except for the sound of a long drawn out sigh.
“Shuji…”
The sigh came from the much larger band member beside him. The drummer of the group, Hazama leaned back in the vacant arm chair. He was much taller than Shuji, or anyone else in the group for that matter. Though a the slight fear that showed across his face as the lead female singer turned her head to them caused him to pluck up a bottle of water from nearby table.
“You know the rules man,”
Shuji clicked his tongue but dropped the subject, for now. “So, any idea for our next gig, boss?”
Boss, the lead singer pulled her bangs away from her face, still wet from stage.
“Aside from our usual spot, no.” She replied as she reached into her coat and pulled out her cell

This past Friday, I had the opportunity to see Dr. Rachel Whitcomb's performance in PNC Recital Hall, titled "Back on my Feet Again. " This was a country, blues, and bluegrass concert coming from a vocalist and professor with a classical learning background. It centered around a theme that although a knowledge of classical techniques is important for any singer, they should still try to incorporate their own unique musical techniques into their teaching or performance repertoire. The beginning of the concert featured a digital presentation that questioned what "appropriate" music should be considered and who has the authority to decide what should be performed by formal singers. The questions were all rhetorical and would later be answered by Dr. Whitcomb throughout her performance.…

Who is Nirvana? Why are they important? In a society that demands conformity why did a group of high school dropouts draw the attention of the entire nation with this new form of musical expression that seemed to thrive on negative emotions and controversial ideas? These questions always seem to follow particularly rock musicians because of the topics and the visual impressions they use to express their views of the world. Their impact on the music industry has completely changed how some labels produce their artists, but how did this grunge movement start and why is nirvana the focus of it?…

Living in Columbus can be a blessing and a curse for Tyler. It’s a blessing because it’s all he’s ever known.
