In the soliloquy in question he states; ‘...I do suspect the lusty Moor hath leaped into my seat’, referring to Othello. Through animalistic metaphors and imagery such as a ‘lusty Moor’ who ‘hath leaped’ we can see Iago’s hatred for Othello grow. Shakespeare creates jealousy using the fact that there is no evidence of the affair to highlight Iago’s flaw of festering paranoia which has grown into a jealous rage towards Othello, becoming the seed of his anger. But, nevertheless, everything that Iago says to other persons in the play is doubtable because he is actually manipulating all of them. Therefore Iago’s soliloquies are very important for learning what he really thinks, what has been passing through his mind and so we know that: he is using Roderigo only as a source of gold and jewellery, that he hates Othello and that he covets Cassio’s job. He uses these words:   I hate the Moor…

It is clear to see that Iago is the villain of Shakespeare’s play “Othello.” He is a disloyal friend to Roderigo, he treats his wife as is she is a serve to him, and lied to his army leader to the extent that Othello went and killed his own wife. Without Iago’s villainy in this play, the reader can look at it as if there would be no plot at all. The whole story that he made up about Cassio and Desdemona’s affair, there would be revenge to Othello because he gave the job to a less deserving Michael Cassio, and Roderigo would be way better off without his “friend” telling him to give all of his money to his “friend” would have never happened without the true villainy of the antagonist of “Othello,”…
