Allied's Internship Report

My internship experience was experiential, very educational, and stressful at times. I will never be able to thank you enough, Dr. Wigley, because of you, I was given the opportunity to ask about Allied’s internship program when they were our guest speaker in our Intro to PR course of fall semester 2015. Summer of 2016 I was interested in attaining experience in the real world of PR, so I had originally conversed with former Senior Publicist, Kelsey of Allied’s Hispanic division because I was very intrigued and knew I always wanted to have a profession where I could utilize my bilingual expertise. I emailed her my resume and later received an interview request with Tonya. It ended up being a group interview, which ended up going well for me because I answered every question she asked the group. She appointed an induvial assignment to be completed within a week. I was a nervous wreck prior to starting the assignment for a couple of reasons, one, the assignment was executing a short campaign of an upcoming film—in which I was still in lower PR division courses, and second, I had to nail the assignment because it’d be my first potential internship. After a week-long of research and writing my campaign plan and submitting it, I receiving an email from Tonya congratulating me for passing the assignment and becoming a summer intern at Allied—I was stoked and extremely excited!

I was lucky enough to interview Brad Ciolek the scouting administrator for the Baltimore Orioles. Brad and I had our discussion on the phone over fall break, which lasted about 30-40 minutes. Mr.Ciolek told me that after playing high school baseball, he decided that he enjoyed baseball so much that he wanted to attempt to make a career out of it. While discussing his professional life with me, I found out that Brad attained this position through interning with the Orioles in 2011; briefly leaving the organization and returning in 2013 when a job opening presented itself. Mr. Ciolek is very important to the Orioles organization due to the fact that he is in charge of roughly 700 players scouting reports each year.…

I have met with Oni Kinberg from the VA. I was impressed with Oni's clear pride in their internship program and his dedication to facilitate a positive, useful, and effective learning environment for their participants. After we met and he showed me around the facility Oni had me sit down with one of the current interns privately and she had glowing feedback. After I waited a few days to receive a call back from the other two agencies I contacted, I decided to accept the Oni's offer apposed to chasing down a potentially less organized internship program.…

The action of recognizing my good job makes me more motivate and also to feel good about the organization. During this opportunity to do this internship, I am taking experience of the things I do right but also the things that I have done wrong.
