It all started when six prisoners over powered the guards in the cell block, and found keys to the gun safe inside the office where the officers would be. Gaining access to the weapons helped the inmates but this was very bad for the guards, now they had people firing back and trying to hurt them and the entire island was on lock down until the prisoners were attained or either killed. After a long fire fight they realized that they never found the keys to open the gates in order to get off the island. This havoc ended with the six prisoners killing two correctional officers, and injuring eighteen more. Realizing the guards couldn’t handle the situation, they decided to call in the U.S. Marines and end this immediately. Three of the six prisoners were shot and killed during the fighting, and the remaining three were sentenced with death penalties, so either way there was no way out of what they had started. Since none of the prisoners actually escaped or were even close, this was named the greatest escape fail known to Alcatraz’s history. I would think that after witnessing what had just happened the other inmates would change their mind on trying to escape. But not all, for some it was a lesson they saw that the six prisoners did wrong and learned from their mistakes that cost them their lives. Remembering their very own plans and improving them to where everything they said sounded
